A Guide to Caring for Your Candles: Tips for Longevity and Safety

Our candles add warmth and ambiance to any space, but to ensure they burn safely and effectively, proper care is essential. Whether you're a candle aficionado or just starting to enjoy them, here's a comprehensive guide on how to care for your candles to maximize their lifespan and enjoyment.

  • Trim the Wick:

Before lighting your candle, always trim the wick to about 5mm. This helps prevent excessive smoking and ensures a clean, even burn. Long wicks can cause the candle to burn too quickly and produce excess soot. A wick trimmer works perfectly for this task. • Burn Candles Correctly:

For the first burn, allow the candle to melt the wax evenly across the entire surface to prevent tunnelling. Tunnelling is where the candle burns down the centre, leaving wax around the edges. Avoid extinguishing the flame until the wax has melted to the edges of the container to prevent an uneven burn.
  • Keep Candles Clean:

Dust and debris can affect the quality of your candle's burn. Keep the wax pool clean by removing any debris with a wick dipper or cotton swab when the candle is extinguished and the wax is still warm but solid. This ensures a cleaner burn.
  • Use Candle Snuffers:

Avoid blowing out candles, as this can cause the wax to splatter and the wick to become misshapen. Instead, use a candle snuffer to extinguish the flame gently. This prevents smoke and preserves the integrity of the wick for future use. Our candle snuffer is available here - https://thelittlestcloudcompany.com/products/candle-care-kit
  • Store Candles Properly:

To maintain their scent and quality, store candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources. We don’t use UV inhibitors in our wax, so extreme temperatures and sunlight can negatively alter the appearance of your candle.
  • Avoid Drafts:

Drafts can cause candles to burn unevenly or flicker excessively. Place candles away from open windows, fans, or vents to ensure a steady, consistent burn.
  • Never Leave Candles Unattended:

Safety should always be a top priority when using candles. Never leave a burning candle unattended and keep them out of reach of children and pets. Always place candles on heat-resistant surfaces and away from flammable materials.
  • Reuse Containers:

Once your candle has burned down, consider reusing the container for other purposes such as storing small items or planting small succulents.

By following these simple tips, you can ensure your candles burn beautifully and safely every time, enhancing the atmosphere of your home while extending their lifespan. Enjoy the warm glow and delightful scents while knowing you're caring for your candles the best way possible.
